A group, allegedly affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly assaulted police officers and disrupted operations at state institutions in Awutu Bereku, Central Region.

The group targeted government offices, including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Social Welfare offices, ejecting workers and visitors while locking the premises. Arriving on motorbikes, they ordered everyone to vacate the buildings.

Eyewitness Kojo Manu claimed the group confronted a police officer who recorded their actions, assaulting him, seizing his phone, and deleting the footage.

Manu also alleged an officer attempted to retrieve an AK-47 rifle during the altercation.

Over 50 pregnant women seeking assistance at the NHIS office were reportedly affected.

The incident has sparked concerns about the security of public institutions in the area.
