NDC names Bernard Ahiafor as First Deputy Speaker; Asiamah returns as Second Deputy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Caucus has nominated Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South, as the First Deputy Speaker for the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The announcement was made during an NDC Parliamentary Caucus meeting on January 6, 2025, ahead of the new parliamentary term.

In line with parliamentary rules, the two Deputy Speakers must come from different political parties to ensure fairness and balance.

Alongside Ahiafor, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, the independent MP for Fomena, was re-elected as the Second Deputy Speaker. Amoako, who served in the same role during the Eighth Parliament, is respected for his impartiality and experience.

This leadership arrangement signals a commitment to democratic values and collaboration in the Ninth Parliament.
