NDC never denied impact of COVID-19, Russia-Ukraine war on economy – Minister

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, clarified the NDC's stance. He stated that the party has never denied COVID-19 or the Russia-Ukraine war's impact on Ghana's economy.

However, he emphasized that the NDC opposes blaming all economic challenges solely on these events. This response was made in light of misrepresentations regarding his recent remarks in Geneva.

In a Facebook post, he addressed claims from the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. He criticized them for suggesting he admitted these external factors caused Ghana’s economic issues.

"I do not know whether I should cry or laugh," he wrote. He accused them of demonstrating incompetence even while lying.

Murtala Mohammed reiterated that the NDC acknowledges global events' effects but rejects using them as scapegoats. "We have never said those two incidents had no effect," he stated.

He insisted that they refuse to accept blame for the mess created by the NPP. He pointed out that neighboring countries faced similar challenges but managed their economies better.

He also mentioned ongoing trade wars between America, China, and Europe as additional factors affecting economies. "These dudes are not learning at all," he concluded.
