NDC proposes renaming HQ after Rawlings, declare June as party month

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has proposed several initiatives. These aim to honor its founder, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings. The proposals were adopted by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC). They are now awaiting approval from the party's National Executive Committee (NEC).

Key proposals include renaming the party's headquarters to "Jerry Rawlings House." Another proposal is to amend the party’s constitution. This amendment would officially recognize Rawlings' birthday on June 22. Additionally, June will be designated as "NDC Month."

NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah announced these proposals. He spoke during the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising at Agormanya Lasi Park in Eastern Region. He emphasized that naming headquarters after founders is a common practice worldwide.

Asiedu Nketiah also expressed concerns about Revolutionary Square's condition. He urged a planning committee to restore it to its original state. He suggested contacting museums and monument boards for assistance.

The June 4 uprising, led by Rawlings in 1979, is significant in Ghana’s political history. It marks an important moment for the NDC, which commemorates it annually. This event symbolizes the party's commitment to accountability and probity.
