NDC to rename party HQ ‘Jerry Rawlings House’

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is honoring its founder, Jerry John Rawlings. The party has proposed changes to embed his legacy into its identity.

At the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah spoke at Agormanya Lasi Park in the Eastern Region. He announced that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) approved several proposals. These proposals await ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

One key proposal is to rename the party’s national headquarters to “Jerry Rawlings House.” Asiedu Nketiah stated, “Party headquarters across the world are named after their founders. Ghana cannot be an exception.” This announcement received loud applause from attendees.

He also plans to amend the party’s constitution. June 22, Rawlings’ birthday, would become a significant party day. Additionally, June will be commemorated annually as “NDC Month.”

Asiedu Nketiah expressed concern about Revolutionary Square near Jubilee House. He urged for a planning committee to restore it to its original state. He emphasized that it represents more than just a monument; it teaches valuable lessons to youth.

The June 4 uprising, led by Rawlings in 1979, is vital to the NDC's heritage. It symbolizes accountability, discipline, and revolutionary change. The proposed reforms aim to preserve this legacy for future generations.
