NDC urges re-run of Ablekuma North parliamentary election

The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, is calling for a re-run of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North. He accuses the Electoral Commission (EC) of failing to verify important polling station results.

Nukpenu claims that the EC's inability to authenticate pink sheets from key centres invalidates any victory claims. He spoke on Channel One TV on Sunday, June 1. He stated that the NDC will not recognize results without original or scanned pink sheets. He challenged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to provide verifiable evidence of their win.

“Our position is simple,” he said. “The EC cannot authenticate verified pink sheet results, and we don’t have them either.” He added that the NPP cannot produce a scanned pink sheet for verification.

Mr. Nukpenu has been active in party activities in the region. He believes a fresh poll is the only credible solution for affected areas. “I’m a Regional Organiser—I have led that charge for long,” he noted. “Declare those polling stations null and void. Let’s go for a re-run.”

The Ablekuma North seat has been vacant since January 2025 due to an unresolved dispute over December 2024 parliamentary results. Both candidates—Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the NPP—claim they won.

However, the EC suspended collation after disruptions at the centre and unauthenticated results emerged, leading to a political deadlock.
