NDC using alleged police assault to distract successful CJ demo – NPP

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rejected claims about Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He said Afenyo-Markin did not assault a police officer during the "Save the Judiciary" demonstration. Ahiagbah believes these claims are an attempt by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to distract from the protest's success.

Speaking on Channel One TV's News Feed on May 6, he called the allegations baseless and politically motivated. He stated, “This is a non-issue elevated by the NDC.” He urged people to dismiss it as unfounded.

Ahiagbah claimed that it was actually the police officer who assaulted Afenyo-Markin. He said, “The police officer struck him hard enough to leave him shaken.” He criticized the police for not clarifying what happened.

He suggested that a simple inquiry with the officer could have resolved doubts. “The officer would attest that he hit him pretty hard,” he noted. Ahiagbah even implied that the officer’s actions might have been intentional.

He emphasized that there was nothing wrong with Afenyo-Markin's behavior. Ahiagbah urged everyone to focus on the demonstration’s main message. This message protested President Mahama’s alleged undermining of the judiciary.

He concluded by stating that the narrative pushed by the NDC is false. “We should set aside this distraction and focus on yesterday’s objective,” he said.
