The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has disconnected several customers in Tepa and nearby communities. This mass disconnection aims to recover outstanding debts.
A task force from NEDCo’s regional office in Sunyani conducted the operation. They targeted households and businesses that have not paid their electricity bills. Among those affected were a local radio station and Nasaba Pub in Tepa-Wioso, which owe NEDCo GH¢23,000.
Mr. Martin Ganaa is the Tepa Area Supervisor for NEDCo. He explained that disconnections were necessary due to customers' failure to pay their bills despite multiple reminders. “We need funds for our operational costs,” he stated.
He added that they must pay agencies that generate and supply electricity. Unfortunately, many customers have ignored requests to settle their debts, making disconnections necessary.
Mr. Ganaa described the operation as successful, noting no resistance from customers. He emphasized that NEDCo is committed to service delivery but needs payments to operate effectively.
He urged customers with arrears to pay promptly to avoid future disconnections. This drive is part of NEDCo’s strategy to improve revenue collection and ensure sustainable power distribution across its areas of operation.
