The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is shocked and outraged.
Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Manager, was murdered on May 19, 2025. This incident occurred in the Upper East Region.
In a press statement on May 20, the NHIA praised Mr. Akugri. They described him as dedicated, hardworking, and respected. His commitment to the Authority and the Bongo community was unwavering.
The Executive Management stated that his death is a significant loss. It affects his family, colleagues, and the wider NHIA community. The Authority condemned this “heinous and unfortunate” act.
They called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate thoroughly. They want swift justice for the perpetrators.
Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe is the Acting Chief Executive of NHIA. He mentioned that a delegation has been sent to support Mr. Akugri's family and staff at Bongo District Office.
The NHIA is cooperating with law enforcement in ongoing investigations. Their thoughts are with Mr. Akugri’s family and colleagues during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, condemned the killing as “gruesome” and “dastardly.” He urged law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
Ayariga also called for calm among citizens. He emphasized focusing on efforts by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for peace in Bawku.
