The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has made an important announcement.
Starting this week, NHIS-credentialed healthcare providers will receive swift reimbursements for vetted claims. This decision aims to ensure smooth service delivery.
According to a statement from March 25, 2025, signed by Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the NHIA CEO, this change follows the recent uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, announced this development. It also fulfills a campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama.
The NHIA expects full cooperation from NHIS-compliant facilities. Providers must adhere strictly to NHIA policies and guidelines.
Healthcare providers are reminded to:
- Eliminate illegal charges (co-payment) and unauthorized fees on NHIS members.
- Submit accurate claims based on real patient attendance.
- Deliver quality healthcare services that meet NHIS standards.
To ensure accountability, the NHIA will publish details of paid claims on its website. They will also enhance monitoring of healthcare facilities nationwide.
Any provider violating agreed-upon NHIA policies will face sanctions without exception. This includes imposing unauthorized charges.
The NHIA urges collaboration to maintain a transparent and efficient healthcare system for everyone.
