The Western Regional Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Mr. Enoch Benjamin Sackey, has raised concerns. He noted that over 47,000 Ghanacards are uncollected in the region. These cards are waiting at various NIA offices for their owners.
After a meeting with Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, Mr. Sackey spoke about the issue. He said that the NIA's efforts to improve identification services are hindered by this situation.
Mr. Sackey announced plans to clear the backlog of unissued cards. He aims to streamline the card distribution process as well. "We have received 2,700 blank cards," he stated. "We will print over 15,000 pending cards in three weeks."
These new cards will be available for collection at regional and district offices. He urged residents who registered but haven't collected their cards to do so soon. Accessing the Ghanacard is becoming essential for key public services.
The NIA is expanding its operations and improving service delivery. This effort is part of its goal to provide every Ghanaian with a unique national identification number.
