NIB has summoned me for questioning – Napo reveals

Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, a former Minister of Education, has been summoned by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for questioning.

He stated that he visited the NIB to answer questions about his time in the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government. The former NPP running mate for the 2024 election emphasized accountability for public officials.

Dr. Opoku-Prempeh explained that as a law-abiding citizen, he could not refuse the NIB's invitation. He feels confident because he has a clear conscience.

In a viral video shared on X, he said, “As for accountability, nobody can escape it.” He mentioned that he had been invited to assist with investigations related to his tenure at the Ministry of Education.

“I couldn’t have declined that invitation,” he added. He noted that he has visited the NIB twice and cannot remember everything from his time in office.

He acknowledged that technocrats help run ministries and keep records. For issues he remembers clearly, he spoke during his visits.

Dr. Opoku-Prempeh also warned politicians about their responsibilities: “No condition is permanent.” He reminded them they could be in power today and in opposition tomorrow.

He spent his entire day at the NIB and may return again soon.

Some Ghanaians reacted to his video comments online. One person noted, “The election defeat has imbued some sense into this guy.” Another remarked on how he sounded like a statesman for the first time in years.

Others criticized politicians who avoid accountability. One comment read, “Are they expecting their bad deeds to be overlooked?”

Another user expressed frustration over unfulfilled contracts while funds were misused: “If you chop the money but do most of the work, we don’t have a problem.”
