The Cannabis Seizure
The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has made another significant cannabis seizure. This follows their recent successful operations in the Volta Region.
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, NIB operatives acted on credible information. They intercepted 3,680 slabs of packaged cannabis in Zadolakope. This riverside community is located in the North Tongu District.
An anonymous source at NIB Headquarters confirmed the operation to The Chronicle. The source stated that agents monitored the Juapong-Adidome area based on a tip-off.
The cannabis was found in 49 bags, each containing 80 slabs. It was traced to riverbanks and was set to be transported via the lower Volta. The route included a stop at Ada before reaching Accra.
An official expressed satisfaction with this operation. He noted it highlights NIB's commitment to fighting illicit activities and protecting national security. The seizure is a major setback for narcotics traffickers in the region.
This arrest strengthens NIB's reputation against illegal activities like drug trafficking and cocoa smuggling. Officials warn those involved that they remain under surveillance.
The consignment has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission in Ho for further action.
