The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service raided Bernard Antwi Boasiako's home on May 23, 2025. He is known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reports indicate that NIB withdrew its officers after NPP supporters gathered at his residence. They left following an order to immediately pull back all personnel from the scene.
The reason for this security presence remains unclear. The atmosphere has calmed, but NPP supporters still linger around the house.
Kwame Adom-Appiah, a member of Wontumi’s legal team, criticized the operation. He called it unnecessary and poorly executed.
He told the media, “Arriving with about 20 vehicles is inappropriate.” He added that Wontumi is not a coup plotter or a threat to the government. “A simple invitation would have sufficed,” he said.
Chairman Wontumi previously questioned President John Dramani Mahama about freezing his accounts. He stated he never served under Akufo-Addo’s administration and wondered why Mahama's government was targeting him.
Wontumi expressed that Mahama's government was treating him unfairly. He claimed they personally hated him and accused him wrongly.
In an interview on Wontumi TV on May 15, 2025, he said, “They know I am winning, so they want to attack me.” He insisted he has never held any government position or received a job from any minister.
“Why would you close my account? For what reason?” he asked. Wontumi concluded by saying Mahama's treatment of him was wrong and personal hatred was involved.
