The National Labour Commission (NLC) has launched a sector-specific labour education initiative, starting with the education sector, to tackle the growing number of industrial disputes and strikes.
The forum, which included key stakeholders like University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Ministry of Education, aims to improve labour relations and cooperation within the sector.
NLC Executive Secretary, Mr. Ofosu Asamoah, highlighted that the education sector accounts for 80% of industrial disputes in Ghana over the past four years.
He emphasized the importance of labour education in managing disputes and promoting workplace harmony.
Asamoah also noted challenges such as inadequate labour law knowledge and lack of funding for such initiatives, urging continued focus on labour issues for national development.
