The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ruled in favor of the National Identification Authority (NIA). This includes its former Executive Secretary, Professor Ken Attafuah. The NLC affirmed that the dismissal of an employee in 2023 was justified.
The case involved Martin Akowuah, a former staff member at NIA’s Madina office. He was dismissed for changing working hours without permission. Akowuah later challenged this decision, claiming unfair treatment.
In its ruling, the NLC stated that the dismissal followed proper procedures. They noted it aligned with the Human Resource Management Policy Framework and NIA’s Standard Operating Procedures. Akowuah's actions were deemed unlawful and unauthorized.
After the verdict, Professor Attafuah defended his leadership style. He rejected claims of unfair treatment towards Akowuah. “His allegations contradict my nature and my work as a human rights advocate,” he said.
Attafuah emphasized his commitment to fairness and integrity. He believes in serving humanity and promoting good governance.
He also discussed challenges faced by leaders in Ghana. He pointed out excessive politicization, misinformation, and propaganda as major obstacles. “These issues distort truth and undermine ethical leadership,” he added. “Thankfully, in this case, truth has prevailed.”
