The National Labour Commission (NLC) has obtained an injunction against the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The NLC declared the strike illegal and ordered the GRNMA to stop. The High Court in Accra granted this injunction on June 5, 2025.
This ruling restrains the GRNMA and its members from continuing their action. The NLC argued that the strike was illegal and disrupted healthcare services nationwide.
Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori presided over the court session. She upheld the NLC’s request, ordering an immediate halt to all strike activities.
The injunction will last for ten days. After that, the NLC must reapply if further legal action is needed.
The GRNMA initiated the strike due to delays in implementing their 2024 Collective Agreement. This agreement addresses key service conditions, including unpaid allowances and delayed postings.
The strike has caused significant disruptions in healthcare delivery. Nurses have withdrawn outpatient and emergency services, overwhelming hospitals across the country.
