The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Edudzi Tameklo, has issued a warning to NDC members. He cautioned them against illegal mining activities, known as galamsey.
Mr. Tameklo is also the Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC. He stated that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration will not tolerate illegal mining by party loyalists.
“Anyone within the NDC who engages in galamsey is on their own,” he said. He warned that President Mahama would deal with offenders harshly. “You are an enemy of the President and his government,” he added.
His comments come as the government intensifies efforts to combat illegal mining across the country. Recently, military forces have been deployed to key galamsey hotspots, resulting in multiple arrests.
Mr. Tameklo addressed reports that some NDC members feel emboldened since returning to power on January 7, 2025. He made it clear that no party official or government figure would help those breaking the law.
“If you engage in these activities, don’t expect any intervention,” he stressed. “Dr. Omane will not get involved.”
He urged party members to seek legitimate business opportunities instead of harming the environment and damaging the government's image.
“In God’s name, there are many legitimate businesses for NDC members,” Tameklo appealed. “Don’t create problems for Mahama’s government.”
He made these remarks during an interview on Accra-based TV3 on Saturday.
