NPP's Frank Davies urges caution, due process in Chief Justice removal debate

Frank Davies, the Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is worried. He believes there is too much politics in the potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

On JoyNews' Newsfile, Mr. Davies warned about how this issue is being handled. He said it could harm Ghana’s legal framework and democratic stability.

He noted that removing a Chief Justice isn't the main problem. The real issue lies in how the process is approached and presented to the public.

“It’s not the removal, per se, of a Chief Justice which is the problem,” he stated. He emphasized that if there’s a valid reason for removal, it should be acceptable.

However, Mr. Davies sees political interference as a growing concern. He feels that partisan narratives have muddied the situation.

“For me, the aberration is when issues are so muddied,” he said. He expressed worry over persistent misinformation from knowledgeable individuals.

Mr. Davies called for respect for the rule of law. He urged all parties to let due process unfold without manipulating constitutional processes for political gain.
