John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has accused the Minority in Parliament of 'setting him up' regarding his comment about a 2.6-day fuel cover.
The Minority claims the energy minister focuses on media headlines instead of solving energy sector issues. In response, Jinapor explained that they invited him to discuss the energy situation. They also brought media representatives to cover this briefing.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Jinapor expressed surprise at the Minority's reaction. He said he was working when they called him for a briefing on Ghana's energy challenges. He provided facts about debt, fuel reserves, and generating capacity during this meeting.
Jinapor stated he mentioned having two days and six hours of light crude oil for one plant. He clarified that he did not predict load shedding or an imminent crisis. He noted that 450,000 barrels of light crude oil had been imported to boost current supplies.
Some media outlets focused on the 'two days, six hours' statement and suggested a crisis was near. Jinapor aimed to correct this narrative and reassure the public about additional fuel supplies arriving soon.
He added that after his briefing, the Minority held a press conference accusing him of excessive talking. They even requested a load-shedding timetable despite receiving data on generation capacity and demand during their meeting.
Jinapor questioned how they could publish such a timetable if there was no load shedding planned.
