Prince Obeng, the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the NPP, led a visit on Wednesday. He was accompanied by all Constituency Organisers in the region. They paid a courtesy call to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his residence in Nima.
The purpose of the visit was to express gratitude for his leadership. They also wanted to discuss important issues for the party's future. One key topic was the role of Constituency Organisers.
Mr. Obeng spoke on behalf of the group. He emphasized the need for clear constitutional definitions for Constituency Organisers' roles. He called for amendments to the NPP Constitution and asked the former President to support this effort.
He stated, “It’s time to institutionalise and highlight our work.” The delegation expressed concerns about government actions affecting judicial independence. They mentioned the suspension and potential removal of the Chief Justice as troubling.
They warned against using these actions to change presidential term limits. “A president's two terms cannot be redefined into a third term,” they asserted firmly.
Former President Akufo-Addo welcomed them warmly. He expressed confidence in the NPP's ability to recover from recent losses. “Political parties win or lose elections,” he said, acknowledging their defeat but encouraging optimism.
He urged them not to dwell on past failures but to reorganize and move forward together. “We must believe we can regain public trust by 2028,” he added.
The meeting inspired and energized the organisers, who left feeling determined and united. Mr. Obeng concluded with a strong message: “The Elephant is indeed a winning symbol — and we will be back.”
