Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). He criticized their attempted arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. Fordjour is the Member of Parliament for Assin South.
This incident happened on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. NIB officials reportedly surrounded Fordjour’s home to detain him. This followed his claims about suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport. He alleged these flights were linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.
Members of the Minority in Parliament and some NPP executives intervened. They argued that NIB operatives had no arrest warrant. They also claimed the officials failed to follow legal procedures.
Kodua Frimpong spoke to the media in support of the Minority's position. He emphasized the importance of due process in sensitive matters. “The chaos this morning was needless and unwarranted,” he said.
He suggested that if NIB acted in good faith, they should have contacted Parliament first. “They should have requested an invitation for questioning or help in investigations,” he added.
Frimpong criticized the "Rambo style" approach taken by NIB officials. He questioned whether Fordjour had committed any crime at all. He expressed hope that the government would commend Fordjour instead.
The attempted arrest has raised concerns about political intimidation. This is especially true for opposition members who speak out on national issues. The NIB has not yet commented publicly on this matter.
