NPP Prez primary: Bryan Testing The Waters ... Sets up Exploratory Committee to engage stakeholders

Dr. Bryan Acheampong Signals Presidential Bid

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, may run for president. He has set up an Exploratory Committee to gauge support within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The committee will consult party members and assess the political landscape before the internal primary.

“The Committee will listen to grassroots voices,” he said. “We will align my vision with the aspirations of our party and people.” Many in the party see this as a strategic move toward a formal announcement.

Dr. Acheampong has a long history with the NPP. He has risen through the ranks from grassroots mobilization to top leadership roles. “These experiences have given me insights into what it takes to build our Party,” he noted.

He is a four-term Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. Dr. Acheampong has also been a party financier, committee member, and campaign strategist. He emphasized his dedication: “I will continue to serve our party with all my resources.”

Party insiders believe forming this committee shows thoughtful leadership. It emphasizes consultation, unity, and preparation over rushed ambition. The committee aims to complete its consultations in four weeks.

Recently, Andy Appiah-Kubi hinted that Dr. Acheampong is preparing for the NPP presidential primaries. He described him as a candidate who can unify and revitalize the party.

“We need a great candidate who can redeem our party,” Appiah-Kubi said. “Dr. Bryan Acheampong is preparing himself for that mission.” He believes Dr. Acheampong’s work speaks volumes about his capabilities.

Appiah-Kubi highlighted Dr. Acheampong's unique blend of intellect and business success. “If we want intellectual prowess or business acumen, he’s our man,” he added.

In addition to his political ambitions, Dr. Acheampong pledged to rebuild shops affected by a recent fire at Kejetia Market in Kumasi. This reconstruction depends on approval from local authorities.

He promised completion within a year so traders can return to business once approved by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

To support community recovery, Dr. Acheampong donated GH¢300,000 to Kejetia Market executives and GH¢500,000 for victims of the Kantamanto fire disaster in Accra.
