NPP denies leaking Oquaye Committee Report, warns against fake quotes

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied claims about the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee Report. They warned against fake quotes linked to its contents.

General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that only one copy exists. This copy was officially submitted to the National Council. The party is still reviewing the report and will share information when necessary.

Frimpong accused political opponents, especially from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of spreading false excerpts. He urged party members to ignore these claims and focus on rebuilding efforts for the 2028 elections.

The Oquaye Committee investigated reasons for the party's loss in the 2024 election. It presented its findings to the National Council last Wednesday. Since then, social media has been filled with alleged quotes, which the NPP insists are false.

The NPP cautioned its executives and members against public endorsements or negative remarks about presidential aspirants. The National Council takes recent disparaging comments seriously. They reminded everyone that their code of conduct prohibits such actions until nominations open.

Any violations of this directive could lead to sanctions under party regulations.

In another development, the NPP formed a nine-member Constitutional Amendment Committee. This committee will review and propose changes to the party's constitution. Frank Davies chairs it and also leads the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee.

Other committee members include Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, among others.

The committee will identify sections needing amendments based on Oquaye Committee recommendations. It will also review suggestions from a previous constitutional review led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Additionally, they will categorize amendment suggestions from members for clarity before making recommendations for debate.

The NPP plans an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in July to discuss this committee’s report. Proposals will be presented as amendment motions for adoption or rejection.
