NPP followers should not despair –Osahen

Minority Leader Encourages NPP Members After Electoral Defeat

Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader. He urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) members not to lose hope after their recent defeat. He emphasized plans for reorganization and revitalization within the party.

Afenyo-Markin believes this process will strengthen the NPP. He called for reconciliation and full participation from all members. Despite being outnumbered, he pointed to their effective presence in Parliament as a sign of potential.

He expressed confidence that unity and divine support would lead to victory in 2028. Afenyo-Markin made these comments on April 4, 2025, during a visit from musicians Great Ampong and Nicholas Omani Acheampong. They came to encourage him and acknowledge his work in Parliament.

Great Ampong referenced a biblical story about Israel's defeat by the Philistines. He reminded Afenyo-Markin that God remained with Israel despite their loss. The minority leader agreed, stating that there is hope even in difficult times.

He recalled visiting Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at night during opposition years. Prayer warriors were always present, interceding for the party’s success. Afenyo-Markin noted that they know how to seek solutions through prayer during tough times.

He reflected on the challenges of accepting their defeat in 2024. The NPP had successfully implemented social intervention policies while in power. However, he acknowledged mistakes made during the elections that affected voter decisions.

Afenyo-Markin criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to deliver on promises while in power from 2009 to 2017. In contrast, he highlighted NPP achievements like building landing beaches under Akufo-Addo's leadership.

He remains optimistic that voters will recognize these accomplishments by 2028. Recently returned from a party retreat, he stressed critical pillars for revitalization: reconciliation and youth engagement.

Addressing the musicians, he said their support signals readiness to reclaim power in 2028. With rebranding and prayer as key strategies, he believes God will grant them success next election cycle.
