The Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry has highlighted financial commitments from the previous NPP administration.
These commitments total GHS105 billion in the road sector.
Emmanuel Cherry, the Chamber’s CEO, explained this figure includes contracts awarded but not completed.
He spoke during an interview on Channel One Newsroom on April 20.
Initially, during ministerial vetting for the current Minister for Roads and Highways, GHS100 billion was mentioned.
Available funds were estimated between GHS20 billion and GHS25 billion at that time.
With the release of the 2025 budget, actual liabilities are clearer now.
Cherry stated, “As we speak now, the commitment is GHS105 billion.”
He noted these contracts cover road construction, bridges, and related infrastructure.
Many projects have either not started or remain incomplete.
Out of the total commitments, GHS21 billion worth of projects have been executed by contractors.
Cherry stressed that the government must urgently release this amount to keep contractors liquid.
He emphasized that government needs to provide GHS21 billion for contractors to continue their work.
