NPP has no moral authority to criticise Sammy Gyamfi – Kwakye Ofosu

Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has responded to criticism from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He dismissed their comments about Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift controversy. Ofosu argued that the NPP lacks moral credibility on this issue.

He stated that the opposition can express their views. However, those views should be examined alongside their own government record. “The Minority is free to say whatever they want,” he said. “But we will scrutinize what they say based on their appalling record.”

Ofosu accused the NPP of ignoring serious infractions during their time in power. He cited examples of violence and lawlessness that went unpunished. “They did not take action against people who killed others during elections,” he noted.

He mentioned incidents where thugs invaded courts and shot at people without consequences. “I am not sure where the Minority gets its moral authority to comment,” he added.

Regarding Sammy Gyamfi, Ofosu emphasized that the government acted decisively. “Specific action has been taken, and he has apologized,” he explained. A public apology is part of the sanction regime in their code of conduct.

He also mentioned a caution given to Gyamfi as a form of punishment. President Mahama approved these actions, showing how seriously the matter was treated.

“If the president did not take this seriously, these actions would not have happened,” he said. The Presidency believes that a public apology and formal caution are adequate responses to the incident.
