NPP has shifted from its core values to being materialistic – Patrick Boamah ‘cries out’

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the MP for Okaikwei Central, voiced concerns on live radio. He believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has become materialistic.

Boamah stated that the NPP once followed selfless leaders. Now, party members praise those who acquire wealth, regardless of how they do it. He mentioned that Professor Adu Boahene was a university lecturer. Kufuor and Akufo-Addo were not millionaires when they took office.

In an interview with Asaasepa Radio, he said, “We used to follow selfless people.” He emphasized that wealth should not define leadership in the party. “Someone can be rich, and another poor,” he added.

He noted that loyalty and commitment to party values have declined. Many members now act out of monetary gain, which worries him.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ransford Gyampo commented on the NPP's need to return to its roots. He is the acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority and a former political science lecturer.

Gyampo compared current leaders to past figures like B.J. Da Rocha and Peter Ala Adjetey. He believes today's leaders lack the same caliber as their predecessors.

He stated that the NPP is an elite party focused on constructive debate. It should not promote inexperienced individuals who insult others instead of learning from them.

In an interview with Metro TV, Gyampo reflected on his experiences with past leaders at the Institute of Economic Affairs. He expressed disappointment in how current leadership manages party affairs.

Gyampo concluded that if the NPP wants respect, it must reconnect with its traditions and values. The party should foster healthy debate rather than support insults from young members on social media.
