A coalition of political parties, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted a petition to the Judiciary. They are asking judicial authorities to urge President John Dramani Mahama to reverse Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.
During the petition presentation, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on Judicial Service staff. He urged them to support political parties in defending justice and fairness.
Afenyo-Markin cautioned key judiciary officials, including the Acting Chief Justice. He warned them not to become complacent due to their positions. He highlighted that removing Chief Justices and judges with political changes could create division and resentment.
He stated, “For the Judiciary to rise, don’t be comfortable because it is Torkornoo.” He emphasized that all should strive for a fair system that benefits everyone.
In response, Acting Judicial Service Secretary Dr. Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh thanked the delegation for their engagement. He assured them that the petition would be forwarded for consideration.
