NPP members attack JoyNews reporter during Wontumi’s EOCO detention coverage

JoyNews reporter Latif Iddrisu was assaulted today. This happened while he covered the detention of NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Wontumi. The incident took place at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters.

A crowd of NPP supporters gathered outside EOCO. They verbally harassed Latif Iddrisu and physically attacked him. The journalist was there to report on Chairman Wontumi’s arrest.

Multiple attackers accused him of biased reporting. They slapped him and threw objects at him during the chaos.

Earlier, Chairman Wontumi had been questioned at the CID headquarters. He is under investigation for illegal mining activities and unauthorized entry into forest reserves.

Wontumi had just left the CID headquarters in Accra when he was intercepted by EOCO operatives. He had turned himself in yesterday as part of his bail conditions.

The reasons for his arrest are still unclear. EOCO has not yet released an official statement regarding this incident.
