NPP moves to address structural weaknesses after 2024 defeat

After the 2024 electoral defeat, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is shifting focus. They are moving from analysis to reconstruction.

On April 16, party leaders met at Alisa Hotel in Accra. Former President Nana Akufo-Addo and flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia were present. The meeting aimed to discuss the party's future.

During this gathering, a 12-member committee led by Prof. Mike Oquaye presented its report. This committee analyzed why the NPP lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). They also suggested ways to prevent future losses.

The NPP is acting quickly. A new nine-member committee will review the party’s constitution. This review will incorporate insights from the Oquaye report.

General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that this effort aims to strengthen the party. He noted that there are structural gaps that need addressing.

“The National Council has accepted the report, but work remains,” Kodua said. He mentioned that constitutional amendments are part of their plan.

Kodua promised full details of the report would be shared soon with party members and the public.

He urged NPP supporters and media to avoid speculation about the findings. “Let’s not jump the gun,” he warned, noting that premature comments could cause confusion.
