Political Scientist Dr. Kwesi Amakye-Boateng has concerns about the NPP's “Thank You” tour. He believes it is not healing post-election rifts but worsening them.
In an interview on Joy FM's Middaynews, he questioned the tour's relevance and tone. He argued it fails to promote unity within the party after its 2024 election defeat.
Dr. Boateng stated, “So far as what has come to the public is concerned, it [Thank You Tour] is not necessarily healing.” He added that it seems to be deepening existing wounds.
His comments follow a clash between Former MP Kennedy Agyapong and NPP's Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye. This incident occurred during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s national thank-you tour in Berekum.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng advised the party to “re-strategise and come to terms with some realities.” He stressed that collective responsibility and introspection are necessary.
He also criticized the branding of the tour, calling “Thank You” a misnomer. Public feedback has focused on dissatisfaction with the party’s performance while in power.
Echoing Dr. Arthur Kennedy, Boateng suggested rebranding the tour as an “apology tour.” He emphasized humility and unity among party leaders during these events.
“They need to really render an apology to people,” he said. After expressing sincere remorse, they should present themselves without seeking personal gains.
