Linda Boamah Asante is the Deputy CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). She was appointed by President Akufo-Addo in 2022. Despite being a political appointee, she has been retained under the current NDC administration.
Three years ago, Linda Asante was appointed alongside Perry Okudzeto. Both were appointed under Section 49 (1) of the National Petroleum Authority Act, 2005 (Act 691). However, Perry Okudzeto has since left the authority after President John Mahama took office.
Sources say Linda Asante maneuvered to stay in her position as Director of Inspections, Monitoring and Health, Safety and Environment (IM&HSE). This move reportedly had the support of Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.
Although she accepted a political appointment from President Akufo-Addo in February 2022, she remains at her post. Linda Asante has ties to the New Patriotic Party and close relationships with key figures from the previous administration.
The acting CEO of NPA, Godwin Tamakloe, is aware of these developments. He led the restructuring that allowed her to remain in her role.
This situation occurs amid internal NDC concerns about Martin Ayisi's continued position as CEO of the Minerals Commission. Other Akufo-Addo appointees at Ghana Airport Company and Food and Drugs Authority are also facing scrutiny.
Martin Ayisi is known as an NPP figure. He served on the party’s transition team in 2017. He took over leadership at a time when Ghana's mining sector faced challenges with illegal mining, known as “Galamsey.”
