NPP’s decision not to release Oquaye’s report to shield actors of 2024 defeat-Asante Okyere

Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere is a political science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast. He believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is hiding the Prof. Mike Oquaye-led committee report. This report addresses the party's defeat in the 2024 elections.

In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM, Dr. Okyere expressed his concerns. He said the party is keeping the report private to protect influential figures. The NPP has also barred members from discussing its contents.

Dr. Okyere acknowledged that the party can withhold the report. However, he argued that sharing parts of it would promote transparency. It could also help guide future strategies for success.

He stated, “It is troubling that leadership prevents members from commenting.” Members should have space to express their views on what went wrong, he added.

The lack of transparency allows powerful figures within the NPP to maintain control. Dr. Okyere warned this could hinder internal reforms and renewal efforts.

The Prof. Mike Oquaye committee was tasked with investigating reasons for the NPP's defeat in 2024. The committee submitted its findings to party leadership earlier this week, but they remain unpublished.
