Former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei-Owusu revealed troubling findings from the New Patriotic Party’s internal report. It showed that over two million voters in party strongholds did not vote in the last election. He emphasized that their silence is a message the party must heed.
“The report indicates that more than two million people stayed home,” he said on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News. “They told us a story.”
Osei-Owusu noted this disengagement reflects voter disappointment. He described it as a painful but necessary wake-up call for the party.
“They made us confront our mistakes,” he admitted. “We overlooked important issues and failed to act when we should have.”
He urged the party to focus on reconnecting with its disillusioned supporters. “We need to thank them, not just those who won,” he stated. He suggested prioritizing reconciliation and accountability over celebration.
Meanwhile, journalist Kwesi Pratt raised concerns about the transparency of the report Osei-Owusu mentioned.
On Good Morning Ghana, Pratt questioned why access to the Mike Oquaye Committee’s final report is limited.
“Only one copy was prepared and presented to the national council,” he explained. “It seems Mike Oquaye doesn’t even have a copy of his own report.”
