Sammy Gyamfi has rejected claims that the GoldBod Bill was rushed through Parliament. He stated that the legislative process was very thorough.
Gyamfi discussed the bill's journey. He noted that even the New Patriotic Party (NPP) minority, led by Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam, recognized the need for GoldBod. They wanted to ensure the bill was “fit for purpose,” which led to a detailed review.
“The NPP side, led by Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam, supported establishing GoldBod,” Gyamfi explained. However, they aimed to make sure the bill met necessary standards.
The session lasted over four hours. During this time, several amendments were accepted while others were dropped after discussions.
A respected NPP MP told Gyamfi he had never seen such rigorous scrutiny of a bill before.
Despite being developed and passed in 68 days, Gyamfi insists it was not rushed.
“It is a product of diligent work and extensive stakeholder consultations,” he affirmed.
The GoldBod Bill aims to regulate Ghana’s gold trade better. It seeks to ensure transparency and maximize benefits for the economy.
