Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP for Assin Central, recently held a meeting in Kumasi. He met with a group of lawyers and announced his intention to run for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer position again.
During the meeting, Agyapong made controversial remarks about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He claimed that Ghanaians rejected Bawumia due to his Muslim faith and minority tribal background.
These comments have upset many party supporters. Many took to social media to express their disappointment and anger.
Critics argue that Agyapong's remarks are divisive and could harm party unity. This is especially concerning as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.
Some supporters noted that Agyapong used a similar approach during the 2023 flagbearer contest. They warned him not to repeat this behavior now. Supporters urge all members to focus on the party’s collective interests over personal ambitions.
