NPP supporters attack JoyNews reporter during Wontumi’s EOCO detention coverage

JoyNews reporter Latif Iddrisu was assaulted today. This happened while he covered the detention of NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. The incident occurred at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) headquarters.

A crowd of NPP supporters gathered outside EOCO. They verbally harassed Latif Iddrisu and physically attacked him. The journalist was there to report on Chairman Wontumi’s arrest.

Multiple attackers accused him of biased reporting. They slapped him and threw objects at him during the chaos.

Chairman Wontumi had been at the CID headquarters earlier. He faced questioning over alleged illegal mining activities. These include mining in forest reserves without authorization.

He had turned himself in yesterday as part of his bail conditions. After leaving CID, he was intercepted by EOCO operatives on May 27.

The reasons for his arrest are still unclear. EOCO has not yet released an official statement regarding this matter.
