Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed with police in Accra. This happened at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The conflict followed the arrest of Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as “Chairman Wontumi.” He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
The situation became chaotic when supporters attacked two police trucks. They banged on the vehicles and tried to block their entry.
Earlier in the day, many NPP supporters gathered at EOCO. They demanded the release of Wontumi. He was arrested after responding to a police invitation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). This was related to investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.
Senior party officials were present, including General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua and National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye.
