The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced plans for a leadership school. This school will teach members about the party's history, constitution, and traditions. It will open in May.
Frimpong cited the Michael Oquaye Committee's findings. Many party members lack knowledge about NPP's structures and ideology. This ignorance could lead to disunity or members leaving during crises.
He spoke to party supporters in Goaso, Ahafo region, during a 'Thank You Tour.' He noted that the party is still recovering from its loss in the 2024 elections.
In the 2020 elections, the Ahafo region had four parliamentary seats out of six. The NDC won two seats: Asunafo South and Asutifi South Constituencies. In the presidential race, Nana Akufo-Addo received 144,778 votes (55.04%). John Mahama got 116,307 votes (44.22%).
After the 2024 elections, the NDC gained three more seats for a total of five. Gideon Boako was the only NPP candidate to win in Tano North Constituency.
In that election, John Dramani Mahama received 128,986 votes (52.46%). Dr. Bawumia garnered 113,262 votes (over 42%).
Frimpong stated that Oquaye's committee report will remain confidential. He believes that if made public, it could be used against them by the NDC.
Former flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong urged party members to forgive each other. He said he has forgiven those who insulted him during internal elections.
Dr. Bawumia claimed he performed better than many parliamentary candidates in 2024. He believes grassroots members were upset and chose not to vote.
Despite Nana Akufo-Addo’s successful presidency over eight years, Ghanaians voted out the NPP due to economic hardships and propaganda from the NDC. Bawumia is confident that with poor performance from the current government, the NPP can return in 2028.
