NPP want credit for cedi stability but forgets they were the architects of the collapse – Fifi Kwetey

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He accused them of being desperate for credit regarding cedi stability.

Kwetey stated that the NPP wants recognition for the cedi's stability. However, he reminded them they were responsible for its collapse. He compared their actions to burning a house and then seeking praise for bringing water.

Speaking on JOYNEWS, Kwetey said, “They want credit for recent cedi stability but forget they caused the collapse.” He added that they cannot escape their past mistakes and claim success now.

He pointed out that while they ignored negative indicators like inflation and debt, they now want to take ownership as the currency improves. Kwetey questioned why they did not trust their economic team during their last year in power.

He emphasized that the NPP created this crisis but now seeks to claim recovery without contributing to it. Kwetey labeled them as cowards who want to benefit from positive developments without taking responsibility for failures.

He explained that it is not gold reserves driving transformation but rather dollar inflows into the economy. Kwetey noted an initiative has brought $2.6 billion into Ghana within four months.

He argued this amount exceeds what cocoa syndication or IMF programs could provide annually. Kwetey dismissed claims from NPP about policy ownership, stating they lacked creativity in utilizing gold resources effectively.

He reiterated that it’s not about gold reserves; it's about liquidity and dollar inflows. He accused the NPP of wanting credit for cedi appreciation while avoiding accountability for issues like galamsey and dumsor.

Kwetey concluded by saying this group will remain in opposition until they embrace truth in politics.
