Former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu Boahene has issued a warning. He threatened to break his oath of secrecy. This is in response to what he calls false accusations from the Attorney-General.
In a confidential memo dated May 5, 2025, he addressed the National Security Coordinator. The memo was also sent to the National Security Adviser and NSB Director-General. Adu-Boahene denies all claims of financial misconduct.
He insists that funds under investigation were spent legitimately. These funds supported sanctioned national security operations. He provided an expenditure summary for special operations.
Adu-Boahene highlighted GH₵960,000 spent on the parliamentary enactment of the NSB Act, 2020. This amount covered allowances for Members of Parliament during 2020/2021. It was received by the Defence and Interior Committee.
He also mentioned GH₵309,000 used as MP’s allowance in 2024. This was for enacting NSB Legislative Instrument L.I., received by the Subsidiary Legislation Committee.
The memo lists high-cost operations like counter-terrorism programs and election security efforts. Adu-Boahene warns that continued public attacks may force him to disclose classified information. He stated, “I have tried to withhold classified information… but we risk public disclosure.”
