MP A Plus Denies Involvement in National Service Scandal
Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus, is the MP for Gomoa Central. He has denied claims of involvement in the National Service scandal.
A Plus stated he has not received payments to influence or suppress the issue. He explained that a man approached him, claiming he was falsely accused. The man sought his media influence to help clear his name.
A Plus believes that helping someone get heard is not suppression. He said, “Every accused person deserves to be heard.”

Official Statement from Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus)
I want to address a misunderstanding with my colleague, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine.
This matter involves two social media posts:
1. A fake Twitter account impersonating me claimed the Attorney General is corrupt.
2. My Facebook response came after the Attorney General referenced that fake account.
I want to clarify that I have never accused Dr. Ayine of corruption or theft. Those claims are false and misleading.
The fraudulent Twitter account bears my name and photo but is not mine. Verification on X can be obtained through paid subscriptions, making impersonation easier.
My official statements about the sanitation levy are available on my verified Facebook page. I never used terms like "corrupt" or "thief." The impersonator distorted my position to create confusion.
At his press conference, Dr. Ayine invited questions about an alleged scandal involving the National Service Secretariat (NSS). I want to state clearly that I have no knowledge of this matter and no connection to it.
I have never received any payment from NSS nor contacted anyone regarding this issue.

The only time I encountered this issue was in November 2024 when a gentleman approached me claiming he was falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company, he sought my assistance through media engagements.
If this support is seen as an attempt to suppress the case, I disagree respectfully. Everyone deserves to tell their side of the story.
In the past, I've supported several government appointees who faced prosecution under previous administrations and were later exonerated by the current Attorney General.
I stood publicly with Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson because I believed in his integrity and innocence from the start.
There’s nothing wrong with supporting someone regardless of their political affiliation.
If Dr. Ayine has information contrary to my statements, I urge him to make it public for transparency's sake.
I understand Dr. Ayine’s frustration over offensive remarks made by an impersonation account using my name and image; however, I cannot control its content or existence.
Regarding my own Facebook response at Dr. Ayine's press conference, I admit my tone was inappropriate and apologize sincerely for it.
As a Member of Parliament and junior colleague, I retract those words fully and take responsibility for them.
To show remorse and respect, I've deleted that post—something I rarely do.
The fight against corruption remains crucial for President John Dramani Mahama's administration and our government as a whole.
We must engage in this effort with integrity and mutual respect moving forward for Ghana's welfare.
Signed:
Honorable Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus)
Member of Parliament
Gomoa Central Constituency
