Osman Ayariga, CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has kept a promise. He supported Solomon Akugru, a survivor of the June 3, 2015, Circle disaster. Akugru is now enrolled in the National Apprenticeship Programme.
This support came after blogger Kobby Kyei made a public appeal. He highlighted Akugru’s struggles in a May 30, 2025, post for his Touching Lives initiative.
Akugru suffered severe facial injuries during the tragic flood and fire. He was abandoned by his family and forced to beg on the streets. His story gained national attention and moved Mr. Ayariga to take action.
Ayariga invited Akugru to the NYA Head Office. There, he listened to Akugru's story and helped him fill out training forms as a tile layer.
This gesture was praised as compassionate leadership beyond official duty.
Kobby Kyei thanked Ayariga in a Facebook post for his genuine support. He wrote that Ayariga's involvement speaks volumes about helping Akugru rebuild his future with dignity.
Ayariga praised Kobby Kyei for his advocacy work. He reaffirmed NYA’s commitment to youth development, especially for marginalized communities.
He also welcomed future collaborations aimed at empowering young Ghanaians.
This initiative has inspired many people. Akugru’s journey shows how leadership and empathy can restore hope and transform lives.
