NYA to implement National Apprenticeship Programme

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has announced plans to launch a comprehensive National Apprenticeship Programme aimed at equipping young people with essential skills for the job market. This initiative, unveiled during a recent press conference, seeks to address the growing unemployment rates among youth by providing practical training and fostering entrepreneurship.

The NYA’s Director, Pius Enam Hadzide, emphasized the importance of aligning vocational training with industry needs to create sustainable employment opportunities. The programme will not only focus on traditional trades but also include emerging sectors such as technology and renewable energy. By collaborating with various stakeholders—including businesses and educational institutions—the NYA aims to enhance the employability of young individuals.

This apprenticeship scheme is part of a broader strategy to empower Ghana's youth and reduce dependency on government jobs. With an estimated 60% of the country’s population under 25, this initiative represents a critical step toward harnessing their potential and driving economic growth through skill development and innovation. The NYA is committed to rolling out the programme in phases across regions, ensuring accessibility for all aspiring apprentices.
