**Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Speaks After Illness**
Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang released a statement after her medical emergency. She expressed gratitude for the well wishes from Ghanaians regarding her health.
Opoku-Agyemang was hospitalized at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on March 29. She fell ill suddenly that same day.
In her Facebook statement, she thanked everyone for their kind sentiments and well wishes. She also wished Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community.
Her hospitalization raised widespread concern among Ghanaians. Many took to social media to express prayers and support for her recovery.
Political figures, religious leaders, and citizens extended their best wishes as well. Eric Adjei, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, reported she is in good health.
Adjei stated on Facebook that "our mother, the vice president, is doing very well." He thanked God for her recovery and shared updates from her team.
Opoku-Agyemang is Ghana's first woman vice president. The presidency announced she would seek further treatment abroad after her hospital stay.
The Economic Fighters League raised concerns about Ghana's healthcare system due to her need for foreign medical care. They emphasized this situation reflects decades of underinvestment in public healthcare.
They questioned what it means for ordinary Ghanaians if even high-ranking officials cannot rely on local hospitals. Recent political figures like Speaker Alban Bagbin have also sought medical care abroad.
Ghana spends about 6% of its GDP on healthcare infrastructure. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant gaps in the health sector, including a need for more district-level hospitals.
In related news, Nana Asante Bediatuo made his first public appearance since his illness. He joined family and friends to celebrate former President Akufo-Addo’s 81st birthday.
Bediatuo fell ill while working with Akufo-Addo during a UN conference in October 2024. He remained in the US for treatment afterward and was not seen publicly until now.
