The Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has challenged Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine. He wants the Attorney General to publicly name the MP who allegedly accepted money to suppress a scandal involving the National Service Scheme (NSS).
In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, Ahmed Shaib dismissed the allegations as a “big joke.” He questioned the credibility of such claims.
“Is the Attorney General seriously suggesting that an MP took money to kill a case? Are you saying I must go through an MP to bury it? That is ridiculous,” he stated.
The Weija-Gbawe MP urged the Attorney General to disclose this MP's name. He argued that making vague accusations without evidence is irresponsible.
“If he can say someone is in Senegal or South Africa and claim they can’t be retrieved, why can’t he name this MP?” he asked. “This is completely uncalled for.”
He continued, “You have the audacity to stand before cameras and say that about an MP. It’s a joke. Ghana is a complex society. When people are in trouble, they lean on others.”
Ahmed Shaib insisted that if there’s an involved MP, they should be named. “I dare him to come forward and explain how this MP got involved,” he said.
The controversy began when Dr. Ayine revealed that the NSS CEO allegedly paid a Ghanaian MP to suppress ghost names within the scheme.
At a press conference on Monday, Dr. Ayine shared evidence of financial transactions involving NSS executives and vendors linked to fraudulent activities.
He alleged that in November 2024, payments were made to bury the ghost names scandal in media coverage and publicly defend those involved.
“We have evidence that in November 2024… payments were made by NSS officials to kill this story,” said Dr. Ayine. “This is a developing story; more details will emerge soon.”
However, Mr. Ahmed Shaib maintained that such claims need concrete evidence rather than just public statements.
“If the Attorney General has proof, let him present it,” he added. “Otherwise, this is just another distraction.”
