Nana Akomea slams NPP members singling out Prof Oquaye for the party's defeat

Nana Akomea, former Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), has raised concerns. He questions why some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members blame Prof Mike Oquaye Snr for the party's defeat in the 2024 elections.

His comments come after criticism from Eugene Boakye Antwi and other party members. They are unhappy with the committee formed to investigate the NPP’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in December 2024.

Critics argue that Prof Oquaye’s leadership of the election committee led to poor results. They describe this performance as the worst in NPP history, losing many parliamentary seats.

On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Senshow, Nana Akomea questioned this blame. “Have they explained how Oquaye contributed to our defeat?” he asked.

He noted that many critics were part of the campaign team. It seems strange to him that they are now shifting blame.

“Let’s not make this personal,” he said. He pointed out that most committee members are not well-known within the party.

Akomea emphasized that the committee was formed by the National Council, not just one person. “Over 110 National Council members approved it,” he stated.

Now that the committee has finished its work, he wonders why there is still complaining. The report reflects party views and concerns, according to him.

He believes anyone with issues about Prof Oquaye should have raised them earlier. “To single out Prof Mike Oquaye is simply unfair,” he added.

As Vice Chairman of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 campaign, Akomea urged focus on recommendations instead of personal grievances.

“They should stop personalizing this matter,” he stressed. The report offers a way forward for the party.

The 12-member committee, chaired by Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye, presented its findings on April 16 at Alisa Hotel in Accra.
