Nana Akomea, former Chief Executive of the State Transport Corporation (STC), supports Kennedy Agyapong's decision to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “Thank You Tour.”
Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, announced his withdrawal on April 30. He cited security concerns for his supporters as the reason. This decision follows a violent incident where a student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was stabbed. The student was reportedly affiliated with Unity Hall.
In an interview with Nhyira FM, Nana Akomea expressed his views on the tour. He stated that it was meant to promote unity but had become counterproductive. He described it as an "unnecessary competition." Akomea praised Agyapong’s withdrawal as a sensible move given the circumstances.
He also voiced concerns about growing divisions within the party's leadership. Akomea urged leaders to present a united front for their supporters. This is especially important after the 2024 general elections.
He emphasized that party leaders must remain united and be symbols of unity. The “Thank You Tour” has been ongoing since 1992, he noted. Akomea expressed sadness over the margin of loss in the 2024 elections. He believes this should guide their actions if they want to win in 2028.
