North Tongu lawmaker Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called for the immediate cessation of salary payments to the Board of Trustees overseeing the National Cathedral project, citing its stall for over 30 months.
Ablakwa argued that it is unjust for the board to continue receiving salaries while the project remains at a standstill.
In addition, he is demanding the retrieval of the $58 million spent on the project, following a damning report by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
The report highlighted irregularities in the awarding of the contract, including non-compliance with procurement laws.
Ablakwa stressed that the contract should be canceled and further investigations conducted, warning of international embarrassment.
